I’ve noticed overcoats getting serious airtime recently, yet despite their apparent ubiquity I’d say one graduates to wearing one – I know I did. For me they too often proved boxy and big – either long or generally awkward, which of course ruined everything. But that was before… when things like Hardy Amies‘ double-breasted, wool mélange tailored dream didn’t exist in my wardrobe / life. (And yes, I am infinitely better for it, thank you.)
So in your own hunt for that perfect overcoat, keep fit and structure at the forefront of every decision you make. A great overcoat differentiates itself from the hoi polloi by being comfortable while also appearing tailored and sleek. It also should prove wearable and versatile – either layered above suits and shirts or more casually with crewnecks and hoodies.
